From 1950:
The new South Drive-In Theater, 3050 S. High St., celebrates its grand opening tonight. Located a mile and one half beyond the city limits, it is the city’s newest and most modern drive-in with a 70-foot screen tower, the largest screen in the city. The opening program at the South Drive-In will be a double adventure program featuring “Down Dakota Way,” starring Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, and “Francis,” with Donald O’Connor and Patricia Medina. “The Fighting Seabees” and “Flying Tigers,” both starring John Wayne, will open Sunday, May 14. Two complete shows will be given nightly.
The South Drive-In, one of perhaps two remaining drive-in theaters still operating in the Columbus area, is scheduled to open for the 2011 season later this month. Check out the Dispatch “Look Back” blog for more.
