The Dispatch spoke with TobyMac, who helped found Christian rap as a member of dc Talk and now scores mainstream hits as a Christian pop artist, in advance of his show tonight in Grove City:
“When I first started writing rap, my first couple songs were about ex-girlfriends I was mad at. I didn’t even know Christian music existed. All I knew was hymns.
“I started realizing how long it would take me to write something well. If I’m going to spend all that time, why not focus on something that matters to me?”
