Once upon a time (1974 to 2002, specifically), there existed Engine House No. 5, an 1800s firehouse that was turned into a restaurant.
Apparently, if it was your birthday, you were delivered a cake via fire pole! And it would seem that this happened so often that those girls in the back weren’t even fazed.
Now, Engine House No. 5’s former location (121 Thurman Ave.) is home to retail-branding agency Big Red Rooster. Dispatch “Look Back” blogger Nathan McGuirk says they kept the fire pole.
